1 Corinthians 10:10
And do not grumble, as some of them did--and were killed by the destroying angel.
Let's face it; we all can be guilty of complaining about our situation from time to time. Especially when we ask, "Lord, why have you placed this trial in front of me? Why not something more manageable? No one else seems to be having as much trouble, so why pick on me?" However, these circumstances that seem so unmanageable and overwhelming are the same ones God uses to strengthen us.
Imagine how different we might feel if whenever we came across an incredibly difficult situation, we said, "Lord, this must be here to make me stronger." James 1:2-4: "Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." Unfortunately, like the Israelites, many people die in the wilderness grumbling about their situation. They never move on toward maturity in their faith. Their bodies are scattered in the desert of broken dreams and unfulfilled potential.
When you say the Lord's prayer -- "give us this day our daily bread" -- for what are you really asking? Is it, "Lord please take away the burden and responsibility of my bills, relationships, or job?" When we pray this way, are we really grumbling? The Bible tells us the Lord will not allow us to be tempted more than we can handle (1 Corinthians 10:13), and that He will provide everything we need to deal with each circumstance (Isaiah 41:10), if we rely on Him (Psalm 121:1-2). Therefore, it is so much more pleasing to the Lord when we respond to the obstacles we encounter: "Lord, you must have allowed this to be on my path because you intend to make me stronger. I trust in You -- bring it on!" Do you need to change your prayer to the Lord in any way?
